Ever since middle school, I have been curious to find out what the best way to learn is. Many of peers do extra homework problems, read the textbook, or look at review sheets. In order to find out how I learn best, I had to try various techniques. Some ways I discovered that were helpful to learning were taking notes, making flash cards, and teaching somebody the material.
Taking notes during a class lecture has always worked for me. I can review them easily for a quiz or test and they help me remember what the teacher had discussed. Also, having notes makes me feel organized while I am learning or in class.
My life relies on making and using flash cards. Whether they are used for simple vocab or memorizing grammar structures for a different language, they always help. They are quick and easy. I will ask my parents or someone to quiz me on them and my quick or slow response shows how much I truly know. Flash cards are best used for memorization and they can work for almost everyone.
Lastly, I discovered teaching somebody about the material is a good way to learn. Relaying the information to someone who missed the class or does not understand it, shows you absorbed the subject. Teaching someone also makes you notice if you know your stuff. Repeating the material to someone new drills it into your brain so you can store it away and use it again.
What study habits have you realized work best for you? Do they include any I mentioned or are they new ideas?
